Celebrating Our Dove- Soror Greshan

In October 1967, Soror MaeAnn Greshan became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. through the Gamma Beta Chapter at the University of California, Berkeley.  Located in the Pacific Region, she held numerous positions within the undergraduate chapter and was Undergraduate Representative to the graduate chapter, Epsilon Phi Zeta at Berkeley/East Bay (San Francisco California).

Soror Greshan joined Epsilon Phi Zeta Chapter in the Fall of 1970 and pursued all avenues of Finer Womanhood with the exemplary Sorors who took her under their wings and let her soar.  She served in an elected capacity as Historian within the graduate chapter.

Soon professional opportunities became more integral to her goals within Zeta and she sought to spread her Zeta wings in a newly formed chapter. In 1980, this led her to Iota Delta Zeta Chapter. Located in Hayward, California, Soror Greshan successfully held several offices, established Iota Delta Zeta’s Stork Nest and Learning Center, and served as the chapter’s 1st Vice President when Dr. Barbara Carpenter was the National 1st Vice President.

She has attended more than two decades of Grand Boules (national conferences) as a voting delegate, and had the opportunity to know and work with many Sorors from various regions within Zeta.  In 1999, a new career path brought Soror Greshan to Zeta’s Eastern Region and to Omicron Theta Zeta Chapter, located in Northern Virginia. She knew many Sorors in that chapter due to friendships forged across the Nation thru participation in various aspects of the Boules.  She served as a voting delegate for Boule 2000, which took place in Philadelphia, PA, and was instrumental with the establishment of the chapter’s Storks Nest and Learning Center. Soror Greshan worked faithfully within Omicron Theta Zeta Chapter until health issues began to plague her.

Soror Greshan retired, but could not let go of Zeta.  She transferred to Tau Delta Zeta Chapter in the Atlantic Region, wanting to uphold the Ideals of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood.  She came into Zeta under Triumphant Past International President Mildred Carter Bradham, and has dined with Triumphant Past International Presidents Dr. Deborah Wolfe, Dr. Janice Kissner and Dr. Eunice Thomas.  She is a true ZETA of Fifty Years who remains proud to still show how well many others have taught her.

Soror Greshan has a mentor, Soror Nettie Backstrom, who is 97 years young and lives in California. She describes her as the epitome of a Zeta. Soror Backstrom is a member of Epsilon Phi Zeta and Soror Greshan is prayerful that Soror Backstrom will be around to experience Zeta’s Centennial in 2020.

Soror Greshan has faithfully served Zeta Phi Beta in a multitude of leadership roles, including:

  • Chapter President
  • 1st Vice President (she was recognized on the national level, under Past International President Barbara West-Carpenter, for her reclamation efforts)
  • California State Secretary
  • Pacific Region Secretary
  • NPHC Representative
  • Charter Member of Iota Delta Zeta

She is also a member of Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church, where she serves on the Deaconess Board.

Soror Greshan was recently quoted as saying, “I enjoyed my time in Zeta. Now it is time for me to sit back and let others work.”

CONGRATULATIONS SOROR GRESHAN! Your TDZ sorors love you and are proud to call you one of our own.
